Southern Summers - Hot! Hot! Hot!

Per Wikipedia...
Spanish moss (Tillandsia usneoides) is a flowering plant that grows upon larger trees, commonly the Southern Live Oak (Quercus virginiana) or Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum) in the southeastern United States fromTexas and Florida north to Southern Arkansas and Virginia.

For me, Spanish moss is so representative of the South.  It's hot and humid...sultry summers. This is a photo from a trip to Florida - but it could be Georgia or Louisiana, or Charleston...but it's definitely South.  I loved the photo so much I painted it three times.  Art is a great way to preserve a vacation memory.  For landscapes, keep in mind that photographs with a high or low horizon line translate better into paintings.  Think - "how am I going to get into the picture?".  The road in the photo above translated into a path gives you the entrance.

"Summer Walkway"  36 x 36 Oil

"Summer Walkway Small"  20 x 20 Oil

"Cool Summer Walkway"  36 x 36 Oil

So take lots of summer vacation photos - and instead of putting them in a photo album, preserve the memory in a painting.  Now accepting commissions for Christmas.  See these paintings and others at www.fondadoerre.com.

Happy Summer-

It Seems I Only Paint "F" Words...

It came to me recently that I have a theme going lately...
It seems I only paint "F" words.

Farms
Fields
Flowers
Foliage
Fruit
Forests
Farm Animals
Fish

And since it seems to be working - I think I'll keep painting "F" words.
Afterall, what do you expect from an artist named Fonda?

Everything is Better with Bacon

I've gone hog wild...I'm hamming it up...

My husband collects pigs - so...I decided to paint him a pig.  It turned into a great project and I photographed all the stages of the painting.  I thought you might enjoy seeing the process. And by the way, the original painting is 36x36.

Stage 1 - Initial Block In
Stage 2 - Proportion

Stage 3 - Define Darks
Stage 4 - Define Lights

Stage 5 - Final Marks - Focal Point

Bright City Lights - Painted Four Ways

How Does it Happen?

One Photograph

Four Different Paintings
"BRIDGE AT NIGHT"

See these original paintings on my website:

"Bridge At Night"
Oil
36 x 36
36 x 24 sold
30 x 24
12 x 12

This photograph of the Brooklyn Bridge was a great starting point.  Each painting began with a black canvas -the black really made the colors pop.  Two of the paintings were in based in Ultramarine Blue - the other two in Cobalt Blue.  Each painting turned out so different in texture and color.  Which one is your favorite?

I'm ready for the next challenge - send me you nighttime cityscape photographs.
